In the Subotica City Library, on April 19, Mrs. Eszter Berényi, the head of the North Bačka District National Library Branch and Mr. Csaba Szücs member of the Károli Library development committee held a joint working meeting. The topic of the communication was identifying the conditions which the Centre for protestant studies Gáspár Károli as its founder has to satisfy in order to meet the conditions necessary for the public status of its Károli Library.
According to Mr. Csaba Szücs, the publication collection of the Gáspár Károli Centre’s library is currently being used exclusively for scientific research. It is the intention of the Research Centre to make the entire library collection available to the general public. In the upcoming period, the Research Centre will take all the necessary steps to file an official application with the competent authority necessary for obtaining public library status, i.e., to make its publication collection available to the community.
Mrs. Eszter Berényi pointed out that Subotica City Library, as the regional library authority within the North Bačka District, is entrusted with the development and improvement of public and academic libraries within its territorial competence. The regional Library authority, inter alia, offers professional assistance to libraries is classification of acquired materials, ongoing training of librarians, monitors and analyses the conditions and upcoming needs of libraries, and proposes measures for improvement.
Joint conclusion of the meeting participants is that both parties would do everything within their power to develop Károli Library into a public library status, making its materials accessible to the general community.
