At the invitation of the Department of Sociology II of the University of Alicante (Universidad de Alicante), Dr Damir Sütő, a Research Fellow of the Centre for Protestant Studies Gáspár Károli, on 25 March 2026 delivered a lecture at an academic seminar organised by the host institution. In his presentation, Dr Sütő outlined the findings of his research on whether legal norms may be employed as primary (empirical) sources in the study of social processes, with particular emphasis on the structural differences between the Anglo-American legal sphere (common law) and the European continental legal tradition.
The seminar also featured a lecture by Dr hab. Małgorzata Suchacka, Professor at the University of Silesia in Katowice (Uniwersytet Śląski w Katowicach), who presented the results of her extensive sociological research based on survey data.
The seminar was attended by professors and researchers of the University of Alicante specialising in general sociology, quantitative sociology, and the sociology of law. Following both lectures, a substantive discussion was held with the active participation of all attendees, during which a range of perspectives on methodological approaches in the legal and sociological analysis of society were exchanged.
During the seminar, the participants agreed on the need to continue their academic cooperation, particularly in advancing knowledge on the relationship between law and sociology. The visit of our Research Fellow to Spain represents a further strengthening of the Károli Centre’s international academic collaboration and opens avenues for future joint projects and research initiatives.
