New Academic Contacts in Barcelona

Dr Damir Sütő, President of the Programme Council of the Centre for Protestant Studies Gáspár Károli, met on 24 February in Barcelona with representatives of the Institute for Culture and Thought (Instituto Cultura y Pensamiento) of the International University of Catalonia.

The hosts of the meeting were Prof. Dr Andrea Mercedes Rodríguez Prat, Director of the Institute, Prof. Dr Maria Remedios Agulles Simó, Deputy Director, and Prof. Dr Aleix Bonfill Garcia, a researcher and professor at the University.

During the meeting, the participants exchanged information about the scholarly activities and programmes of both organisations. Particular attention was given to the work of the Gáspár Károli Centre, as well as to the programme activities of the Institute for Culture and Thought in the field of research on the relationship between society and religious traditions. The Institute operates as an interdisciplinary University unit bringing together researchers from philosophy, theology, history and cultural studies, and focuses on the study of culture, thought and contemporary society through research projects, academic seminars and educational programmes.

The participants noted that there are a number of thematic overlaps in the research interests of the two organisations, particularly in the fields of European cultural heritage, cultural identity and social pluralism, as well as interdisciplinary approaches in the humanities. These topics were considered to provide a solid basis for the development of future academic cooperation.

At the end of the meeting, the possibility was also discussed that a researcher from the Institute might participate in the forthcoming Károli Forum, which will be held in Subotica on 6 June 2026. Both sides expressed their interest in continuing contacts and developing cooperation through bilateral research programmes and international academic initiatives.
